when doing my fashion study the look that striked me the most was ganguro. Ganguro is a Japanese street fashion, which translates literally into "black-face". the look consists of:
-beached hair
-an extreamly deep tan
-deep black eyeliner
-white make up around the eyes and on the lips
-platform shoes
-neon colored outfits (usually hot pink)
-lots of jewlery
Many people further bleach their hair up to platinum blond, and get ever deeper tans, and wear more extream make up and clothing. using the term extream loosly. ganguro was a phenominon that is specific to the city of Shibuya. Its is a very popular look, and found all over Japan. It is also one of my personal favorites, wishing it could come to the states.
